3 August 1859
Aug 3rd. A beautiful morning but we are still minus the essential power
to fill our sails and speed us onward. The day on the whole has been
very dull. Light rain fell nearly all day and it remained calm until
ten o'clock when a cheerful breeze sprang up and drove us along at
some 9 or 10 knots per hour. Nice sailing.
